As they approached their 40th wedding anniversary, the much-admired, much-loved couple Marlo Thomas and Phil Donahue wanted to do something special to honor such an occasion. The result is WHAT MAKES A MARRIAGE A LAST,  a collection of intriguing, intimate conversations with famous couples about their marriages and how they’ve made them last.

Marlo and Phil crisscrossed the country to conduct conversations with 40 well known couples whose enduring marriages they admired – from actors, athletes, musicians, and comedians to newsmakers, writers, and even a former President and First Lady. Those conversations, captured in WHAT MAKES A MARRIAGE A LAST, span the marital landscape: from the rush of new love to keeping that spark alive … from navigating hard times to celebrating triumphs … from balancing work, play and family to growing better and stronger together. And along the way, Marlo and Phil also reveal the rich journey of their own marriage.

Our event host Ron Corning of CW33 TV will ask the authors about their marriage, the process of putting together the book, and all about the other couples whose stories are shared in the book: Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone … Chip and Joanna Gaines … Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos … Elton John and David Furnish … Lily Tomlin and Jane Wagner … Michael J. Fox and Tracy Pollan … and even the oldest living married couple in the United States! You may hear your own questions for Marlo and Phil, too, if you email them to us prior to the event.

WHAT MAKES A MARRIAGE LAST offers heartfelt, practical wisdom for couples of all ages, along with a rare glimpse into the lives of husbands and wives we have come to know and love.
