New Inductees to the Modern First Library

Modern First Library is our collection of new and old classics for building a child’s first library. We have selected books that have a timeless appeal, inspire creativity and open young minds to the world around us.

We have several new books that we are inducting into the Modern First Library. Each book offers another opportunity to enrich a child’s world through the wonder of the written word and imaginative illustration. Here are some of our new Modern First Library inductees.

Author Spotlight: Beverly Cleary and Louis Darling

No teacher has ever had to assign Beverly Cleary books; children sample a few sentences and they just know. Last fall, Cleary’s publisher gave her legions of fans a great gift by reissuing some of her classics in new editions that restore the illustrations by Louis Darling, who gave generations of readers their first look at Henry Huggins, Beezus, and Ribsy. They have been selling swiftly at Interabang and are currently featured in the kids’ display “New Year / Old Favorites."

Author Spotlight: Chris Barton

We're thrilled to host Chris Barton, one of our favorite authors of children’s books, on Wednesday, Feb. 7th at 4:30pm. Chris will speak about and sign his most recent book, DAZZLE SHIPS: WORLD WAR 1 AND THE ART OF CONFUSION, which tells the fascinating and little known story of the brilliant creation of “dazzle." These were designs painted on ships during WWI to confuse the enemy as to a ship’s speed and direction.
