A readable, gripping retelling of the ancient Norse myths. As someone who did not come to these stories with much prior knowledge of Norse mythology, I found this book an excellent introduction. I definitely want to learn more. Also: the audiobook is especially good. It's read by Gaiman himself with great fanfare!

ISBN: 9781555975401
Published: Graywolf Press - September 29th, 2009

A collection about the poet's son's accidental overdose, Mary Jo Bang writes her way through a year of grief. I read this book once a year (at least). "Look at her--It's as if / the windows of night have been sewn to her eyes." This takes the elegy as form and expands it to include everything her heart can't take.

ISBN: 9781566893541
Availability: NOT IN STOCK - Usually arrives in 7 - 14 business days
Published: Coffee House Press - May 13th, 2014

Valeria Luiselli's extraordinary debut novel signals the arrival of a major talent. The novel's fragmented, poetic narrative immediately engages and slowly reveals its secrets. Is this a story of a woman discovering a forgotten Latin poet of the Harlem Renaissance? Is the woman imagined by the poet? Are they both ghosts in search of some way back to the real? Written in Spanish and exquisitely translated by Christina MacSweeney, FACES IN THE CROWD is a fresh and essential voice in the Latin American canon.

Merricat! Merricat! Possibly Jackson’s best work, (certainly my favorite) WE HAVE ALWAYS LIVED IN THE CASTLE stalks the reader with real and imagined fear. Revealing a society entrapped by its conventions, dual tension between the real and unreal in this novel unfolds skillfully as the narrative comes to its shocking climax.
