We created the Interabang Modern First Library when we first opened our doors, and it continues to be one of the most important elements of our wonderful children’s department. The Modern First Library is our curated collection of young children’s books that we feel open the doors to new experiences, broaden horizons, teach lessons and take us on a journey of the imagination. They are timeless classics, both old and new that we feel build a child’s library that they will love and treasure for years to come.
2021 was a great year for children’s books and as a result, we are bringing several new children’s books into this wonderful collection. These new titles are special books that will take their place among the other beautiful titles of The Modern First Library and hopefully make their way into your library as well.
Not only is this an engaging, lovely book and a perfect gift for all ages, it has a timeless story about our home - Earth, where each of us is beautifully different but where we share in Earth’s many gifts. A celebration of what we have in common, and what makes us unique, from the homes we live in, to the clothes we wear, to the food we eat and what we believe - a kaleidoscope of life on earth comes alive on the pages of this delightful book.
Soon after moving to a new home by the sea to be near her Grandma, Margaret discovers a baby unicorn who has accidentally been left behind when his herd passes over the sea on their journey to Unicorn Island on the last summer wind. Her Grandma tells her that the unicorns won’t pass by again until next Spring, so Margaret cares for the young unicorn and they become the best of friends. This is a heartwarming tale of love, friendship and growing up, made even more special with the exquisite illustrations that bring the story to life.
Often, the simplest things are the most beautiful- like this tale of an old farm truck. Written and illustrated by a team of Texas brothers, it brims with heart and is about so much more than the old truck. The beautiful illustrations were created by combining the images of over 250 rubber stamps and depict the farm and Texas landscape in muted tones and simple shapes that capture the essence of the story so perfectly as it explores the continuity of life and what we hold dear.
