Kids Eat, Kids Read, Kids Read About Eating

Little eaters are known for being picky. There’s a world of food out there, but how do you get kids excited about it? Well, books can help! A lot. The following is a list of some of my favorite children’s books about food. They are books that demonstrate why we should be open to new foods, illustrate the wonderful range of choices we have when it comes to food, and encourage gastronomical exploration. Hunger is a force that drives us all. Let’s encourage new eaters to start right, with healthy and varied choices.

These are two of my favorite recent picture books about food.  These books are great whether you even want to read about food or not.  By asking playful questions alongside wonderful illustrations, these books bring the reader into the story.  The rhyme scheme and silliness prevent the books from dragging or turning into a grocery list.  It’s great for a story time or with a class, and the range of foods covered may even hold some surprises for adult readers.
