Interabang’s Featured Poet: Kim Addonizio

Article Type:

For National Poetry Month, Interabang selected one poet to single out and this year we chose Kim Addonizio. You’ll find a brief description of her aesthetic followed by a list of her works we have at the store.

L.A.-based writer Kim Addonizio’s poems have a comedic edge even while breaking your heart. There’s a seriousness to the laughter. Her poems feel raw yet tightly composed. Charles Bukowski said something along the lines of “Writers must never be boring.” Addonizio fits this prescription perfectly, never staying in the same space too long, always throwing the world back at us, whether we like it or not. Throughout each of her collections, including her recently released Now We’re Getting Somewhere, Addonizio plays with the confessional mode of poetry while still encompassing large-scale human concern. Her poems are vibrant and unpredictable. She is not your English class textbook of tired, overanalyzed poems. She is what we need!
