Lori sat down with author Vanessa Veselka to discuss her sophomore novel, THE GREAT OFFSHORE GROUNDS. Vanessa shared how some of her real life experiences, like being a taxi driver and spending a month aboard a tall ship, informed the novel. Metaphorical and literal life journeys are a theme of the novel, and the book draws inspiration from Homer’s Odyssey. The two also discuss the challenges of political activism in life and art. Oh, and whales (via Moby Dick, the Essex whaling ship, and breeding grounds)!
