Akwaeke Emezi’s debut romance novel, and they completely crushed it. This book is wonderfully written, almost poetic in the way Akwake describes things and builds this world. The story follows Feyi Adekola. Feyi has forgotten what it means to be alive. She lost her husband five years ago and is now ready to find the feeling of being alive again. Unfortunately, she finds the feeling with the one person she shouldn’t be with. This love story is gorgeous even when you don’t think you want it to happen. I recommend this to everyone!

Eva and Shane once had seven days together, that changed both of their lives. Now they are seeing each other again for the first time in fifteen years. Will another seven days together change them again, or will they fall apart? This book has a lot of really heavy topics; check your trigger warnings before reading. I love Eva and Shane’s story, it's not perfect, and they don’t always get it right, but that doesn't make them any less right for each other.

John Green is the only person who could possibly convince me (a perpetual pessimist) to become an optimist. He almost did it with this book. In his first non-fiction book, he writes essays about a variety of topics. In each essay, he shows this deep belief in the goodness of people. He seems to find the beauty and the good in everything. If you love audiobooks, then listen to this one; John Green reading his own book is near perfection.

Hood Feminism is about how feminism for too long has been only for white women. Mikki points out all of the ways that “white feminism” has fallen short for so many women and how views need to be broadened so that more good can be done. I ate this book up. It both informed me and convicted me. It made me want to be better in the ways that I had fallen short.

Chanel Miller is a name many don’t know. Her attacker, well, he is known by almost everyone, since his name was all over the news for so long. Chanel writes this book to tell her story. The story of grief, sadness, and having to learn to live in your own body again. It is heavy, but it is so important. We should always know the names of the survivors over the names of the attackers, and Chanel beautifully reminds us of that while telling her story.

$12.99
ISBN: 9781524700515
Availability: NOT IN STOCK - Usually arrives in 7 - 14 business days
Published: Ember - March 5th, 2019

Julia is not the perfect Mexican daughter, because her sister Olga filled that role. Until a tragic accident, and now Julia is expected to step up. But what if Julia found out that Olga wasn’t all that perfect? She will do everything to find out everything, and, maybe along the way, figure out that perfection is something none of us can achieve. I felt so seen in this book it was scary. No one can be the “perfect Mexican daughter” no matter how much we try. It is exhausting, and coming to terms with not being able to live up to everyone’s expectations is just as hard.

This book follows two stories, one in 1990 and one in 2008. Isra has just been married, moved to America, and is struggling to adapt. Deya, Isra’s oldest daughter, is trying to figure out what her life will be now that she is 18. Their stories are similar in ways that will surprise Deya, as she tries to figure out what her future will hold. This story allowed me to live experiences that I will never live. It taught me so much and reminds me of how important it is to read books about people who are different than you.
